Overview of Cash for Work Program:
The Cash for Work program aimed to provide short-term employment opportunities to the affected families, where they would be paid for their work. The program generated a total of 8357.5 person days works inculing 8416.5 Labour & 59 person days Meson, benefiting 487 families in seven villages of the district. The work included cleaning the drains, repairing roads, and other related activities. The program was implemented by Swabhiman Samiti in collaboration with ECHO and Action AD.
Budget and Time Period:
The Cash for Work program had a total cost of Rs. 8,44,600. which was fully funded by ECHO.The program was implemented between 1 september 2008 to 31 march 2009.
Village-wise Work Details:
The Cash for Work program was implemented in seven villages of Siddharth Nagar District. The following is a village-wise work details:
- Ajigara Village: Four works were completed, generating 1397 person-days work, benefiting 79 families.
- Gaura Village: Two works were completed, generating 664.5 person-days work, benefiting 59 families.
- Hathiwar Tal Village:
- ong> Six works were completed, generating 2230 person-days work, benefiting 152 families.
- Sekhui Village:trong> Five works were completed, generating 2508 person-days work, benefiting 90 families.
- Tal Bagahia Village: Three works were completed, generating 596 person-days work, benefiting 35 families.
- Tal Natawa Village: One work was completed, generating 488 person-days work, benefiting 52 families.
- Laukhau Village: 213 person-days work were generated, benefiting 20 families.
Beneficiary Profile:
The Cash for Work program in uska bazar District Siddharth Nagar aimed to include the most vulnerable sections of society. The program aimed to provide employment opportunities for women, dalits, PWDs, and Muslims affected by the recent floods. By targeting vulnerable communities, the program aimed to ensure that those most in need would benefit from the program's short-term employment opportunities.
Impact of the Cash for Work Program:
The Cash for Work program provided much-needed employment opportunities to the flood-affected families in uska bazar District Siddharth Nagar. The program not only helped to rebuild and restore the region but also provided a source of income for the affected families. The employment opportunities generated by the program were particularly important for the most vulnerable sections of society, who are often the hardest hit by natural disasters. The program generated a total of 8,096.5 person-days of work, which translates to over 2 years of employment for a single person. This had a significant positive impact on the affected families, who were able to earn a livelihood and provide for their families during a time of crisis.
In conclusion, the FASAL-2 project implemented by the Swabhiman Samiti brought about a positive change in the lives of small and marginal farmers in the Uska Bazar block and surrounding areas. By providing access to better agricultural practices, technologies, and markets, the project enhanced the income and productivity of farmers, promoted ecological health, and contributed to the sustainable development of the region.
